Without a doubt, Robertson Cornell is a unique law firm in the field of family law. Not only are all the partners female, but all of the employees are as well. This is a rare dynamic in a male-dominated profession that is proving to be successful for partners Moura A.J. Robertson and Melissa F. Cornell.

No matter the reason for their success, Robertson and Cornell agree that their friendship and similar personalities have made working together enjoyable. Both women grew up in households with strong working mothers as role models, and both knew from a young age that they wanted to be attorneys. Both have daughters and hope to impress upon them that hard work will help them achieve whatever they set their sights on. This ideal is also embodied in the firm’s mission statement: “Answers. Action. Excellence.”

Had it not been for an office-sharing arrangement, Robertson, originally from New Paltz, N.Y., and Cornell, originally from Frisco, Colo., might not have ever gotten to know one another. Both had moved to Tulsa solely to attend law school at the University of Tulsa, and both ended up staying after graduation. Neither intended on pursuing a career in family law and neither thought they would be living in Tulsa, but fate led them in that direction, and both believe that it was fate that led them to meet and to the beginnings of Robertson Cornell.

Robertson, a three-time Super Lawyers® honoree who was twice named to the Top 25 Women Super Lawyers® list, is one of only three female Oklahoma certified in the American Academy of Matrimonial Lawyers. She is the current and past chair of the Tulsa County Bar Association’s family law section, a director-at-large of the Tulsa County Bar Association, and a member of the family law sections Tulsa County, Oklahoma, and the American Bar Associations. She is also a member of the Tulsa Women Lawyers Association and the Oklahoma Academy of Collaborative Professionals, volunteers for Tulsa Lawyers for Children, and frequently speaks at Continuing Legal Education seminars.

Cornell, a first-time Rising Stars recipient, is current chair of the Young Family Lawyers committee of the Tulsa County Bar Association, and has published an article in the Oklahoma Bar Journal, “Termination of Joint Custody: Is the Law in Oklahoma Disjointed?” 78 Okla. B.J. 411 (2007). She is a member of the Tulsa Women Lawyers Association and the family law sections of the Tulsa County Bar, the Oklahoma Bar and the American Bar associations, volunteers for Tulsa Lawyers for Children, and frequently speaks at Continuing Legal Education seminars on topics concerning post-divorce issues including appeals, modification and enforcement of court orders.
